About this record:
New Music From Memory duo Loveshadow make perfectly formed '80s-inspired electronic pop that should appeal to fans of YMO, Arthur Russell, Jessy Lanza or even Visible Cloaks. Dreamy.
San Francisco-based Anya and Izaak initially bonded over a track from '80s disco band Aurra, and over the last few years spun this excitement into a fully-realized project. With Anya on vocals and Izaak on synth, bass and percussion, the two make cold DIY new wave that sounds like a loveletter to another age.
From the icy pop minimalism of 'No Control' that sounds like Jessy Lanza produced by Visible Cloaks to the sultry Fairlight disco of 'Passthru', Loveshadow construct a sound that's nostalgic for a sound you sort of remember, but probably didn't exist. It's an amalgam of Arthur Russell's tight avant disco, Yellow Magic Orchestra's slick synth surrealism and Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love"-era experimentation that sounds less like one influence or the other and more like everything at once.
